The keys to success are developing an investment framework that will produce above-average risk-adjusted returns and then consistently implementing that framework in the face of the cognitive biases and agency problems that underlie investing and portfolio management. Competition is fierce: quite a few of the smartest guys on the planet are trying to do exactly the same thing.
